Two day epoxy floor install

Jayson describes the job in one breath: “We blow it, we grind it with our diamond grinder. We'll grind it all, and then we'll clear it out, we'll vacuum, and then we prep the epoxy, we lay the epoxy down, we put the flake down, we let it hold for 24 hours, we come back, we scrape it, and then we put the clear coat or polyaspartic, and then that's the final.”

Day one

We blow the slab off and grind all of it with the diamond grinder, then vacuum up the dust. Grinding opens the concrete so the epoxy base coat keys into it rather than sitting on top. Then the epoxy goes down, and the flake is broadcast into it while it is wet.

The hold, and why one day epoxy fails

Then we leave. The base coat and the flake hold for a full day before anybody touches the floor again. A one day install skips that, and Jayson holds that skipping it fails the customer, so he will not do a floor in one day.

When a coating fails on a garage floor it usually fails at the bond. Hot tire pickup, where the coating lifts off under a car’s tires, is a bond failure between the coating and the concrete, and thin coatings and weak surface prep are the usual causes. We grind every floor and give the base its day, because both of those are about the bond.

Day two

We come back, scrape off the loose flake and roll on the polyaspartic clear coat. That is the final coat. The whole job is 24 hours of work across two days.

You can walk on the floor 24 hours after we finish and park on it after 48 hours.

Who does the work

Every coating gets the same two days

The two days are the same on a garage floor, a patio, a driveway, an RV pad, an interior floor, a shop floor or a walkway or sidewalk.
